Travelling to Da Nang with a Baby

A practical, honest guide to visiting Central Vietnam with a little one: when to go, what to pack, getting around safely, feeding, beaches, day trips, and the gear that makes it effortless.

Da Nang is an excellent destination for travelling with a baby. It offers a calm, clean beach, warm shallow water, stroller-friendly pavements, air-conditioned cafés, modern hospitals and direct flights. The two things worth planning ahead: a safe car seat for road trips, and renting bulky equipment locally instead of flying with it.

Why Da Nang works for families

Da Nang has quietly become one of Asia's best beach cities for families with young children. The coastline is long and clean, the sea is warm and gentle in the mornings, and the city is modern and easy to navigate. Add short flight connections across Asia, a great range of family resorts, and Hoi An just down the road, and it's easy to see why more parents are choosing it over busier, harder destinations.

The one gap has always been equipment. Flying with a stroller, car seat, cot and high chair is exhausting and risks damage. That's exactly why families now rent premium gear on arrival, delivered clean and set up, so the holiday starts the moment you land.

What to pack (and what to rent)

The golden rule: bring what's small and personal, rent what's bulky.

Worth bringing from home

  • A soft baby carrier for airports, markets and the Ancient Town lanes.
  • Your own bottles, a few familiar toys and comfort items.
  • A compact first-aid kit, any prescription medicines, and sun protection for babies.
  • Enough of your usual nappies and formula for the first two to three days.

Better to rent on arrival

  • A stroller, cabin-approved and easy on beach promenades.
  • A car seat, correctly fitted for road trips.
  • A travel cot, arriving clean and ready to sleep in.
  • A high chair for easy mealtimes at your villa.

Getting around safely

Grab (the local ride-hailing app) is inexpensive and everywhere in Da Nang, but cars do not come with child seats, and Vietnamese law does not require them. On busy roads and the 40-minute drive to Hoi An, we strongly recommend a properly fitted car seat. It's the single most important safety decision of the trip, and the easiest to sort with a rental.

Beaches and days out

My Khe and Non Nuoc beaches have gentle, shallow sections, best enjoyed in the cooler mornings before the midday sun. The resort ends of the beach have shaded clubs and calm water. Popular family day trips include Hoi An's Ancient Town (around 40 minutes south), the Marble Mountains, and Ba Na Hills with its famous Golden Bridge. Keep outings short and shaded, and plan around nap times.

Feeding and essentials

Supermarkets and pharmacies stock major nappy brands and international formula, though your specific brand isn't guaranteed, so carry a few days' supply. Da Nang is full of relaxed, air-conditioned cafés that are happy to warm a bottle, and many family resorts offer in-room fridges and kettles. Tap water is not for drinking; use bottled or boiled water for formula.

Health and peace of mind

Da Nang has modern private hospitals and international clinics with English-speaking staff. Bring travel insurance that covers your child, pack any regular medicines, and note your accommodation's nearest clinic. For most families the trip is smooth and uneventful, being prepared simply lets you relax.
