Family-Friendly Beaches in Da Nang & Hoi An
Where to take a baby or toddler to the beach in Central Vietnam: the calmest stretches, when to go, and how to keep little ones shaded, safe and happy.
Da Nang's My Khe and Non Nuoc, and Hoi An's An Bang and Cua Dai, are the most family-friendly beaches in Central Vietnam. All have long, gentle stretches of sand, calmest in the cooler mornings. Visit early, bring plenty of shade and baby-safe sun protection, and keep to the resort ends where the water is calmer and beach clubs offer shade.
My Khe Beach, Da Nang
My Khe is Da Nang's main beach, a long, wide sweep of soft sand running along Vo Nguyen Giap. The resort end is the calmest and most comfortable for families, with beach clubs, sun loungers and shade. Mornings are gentlest, before the midday sun and any afternoon breeze pick up. It's stroller-friendly along the promenade, so it's easy to walk a napping baby.
Non Nuoc Beach, Da Nang
Just south, below the Marble Mountains, Non Nuoc is quieter than My Khe, with the same soft sand and gentle water. Many of Da Nang's larger family resorts sit along here, so if you're staying at this end you may have a shaded beach club and calm swimming a few steps from your room, ideal with a baby.
An Bang Beach, Hoi An
An Bang is Hoi An's most popular beach, a short ride from the Ancient Town. It has a relaxed, low-key feel, with beach bars and cafés set back among the palms offering shade and simple food. Mornings are calmest; the water can pick up in the afternoons, so keep toddlers close and paddle in the gentler early hours.
Cua Dai Beach, Hoi An
Cua Dai, a little further along, is where several of Hoi An's beach resorts sit. Parts of the beach have seen erosion over the years, so conditions vary, your resort will point you to the best current stretch. Where it's calm, it's a lovely, quiet spot for a family with young children.
Beach safety with a baby or toddler
- Go early. Mornings are cooler, calmer and less crowded, best for little ones.
- Shade is essential. The Central Vietnam sun is strong; use a beach tent or umbrella, a wide-brim hat and baby-safe sun protection, and keep babies out of direct midday sun.
- Stay at the calm, resort ends. The water is gentler and there's shade and facilities nearby.
- Watch for currents. The sea can pick up in the afternoons; keep toddlers within arm's reach and heed any flags or lifeguard advice.
- Hydrate and rinse. Bring plenty of water, and rinse sand and salt off little ones afterwards.
Getting to the beach
